The story begins in 1936, when English shoemaker Hutton in Northampton created an entirely new kind of shoe: a thick sole of 100% natural crepe, a signature piping stitched the whole way around the shoe, and a crepe foxing that framed the whole thing. It was named the 'Play-Boy', and marketed as 'the easiest shoe on earth'. The name is the original one — the shoe came long before anything else that carries it. Nearly ninety years on, it is still made by hand, by the same family, through more than 200 manual processes per pair. This isn't a shoe built to look like it has heritage.
